Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Responsible for the efficient operation of anesthesia services under the supervision of the Chief of Anesthesia.
• Leads and directs the work of others anesthesia specialists in methods and procedures for administering anesthetics.
• Manages a staff of anesthesia technicians and nurses.
• Manages anesthesiological services and formulates plans and procedures for anesthesiological services.
• Advises on kinds and quantity of anesthesiological supplies and equipment.
• Coordinates anesthesiological services with other medical activities.
• Serves as consultant on anesthesiology. Also serves as consultant for respiratory physiology problems and ventilator management for intensive care facilities.
• Reviews patient’s chart, including lab, X-ray, ECG, and other information, to evaluate physical status and anesthesia risk.
• Evaluates patient’s condition and recommends anesthetics to be used.
• Administers local, intravenous or other anesthetics following specified methods and procedures.
• Observes condition of patient during surgical procedures, including skin color, dilation of pupils, and vital signs; initiates remedial measures to prevent surgical shock or other adverse conditions as required.
• Accompanies patient to recovery area and remains until patient’s immediate condition is acceptable.
• Documents anesthesia notes on patient records.
• Responds to patient resuscitation calls.
• Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations.
• Serves as ICU consultant in respiratory physiology problems and ventilator management for intensive care facilities.

Minimum Job Requirements:

• PhD’s Degree in Anesthesia from Reputable University.
• Minimum 5 years practical experience post qualification.
• Have a valid MOH License
• Awareness of JCI & CBAHI standards.
