Behaviour for Learning:

  • Develop, maintain and regularly review the effectiveness of the Behaviour and Rewards systems and policies to ensure outstanding learning behaviours across all parts of the school.
  • Report key behaviour metrics to the senior team and take action to make improvements.
  • Advise the Assistant Principal Pastoral on policy related to behaviour and work with parents and students when issues go beyond the Heads of Houses.

Safeguarding:

  • Act as the Deputy Safeguarding Lead (DDSL) for Primary school. To undertake this role you will be required to complete the DSL training. To ensure that the schools child protection policy and procedures are implemented and followed.
  • Ensure systems for child safeguarding and child protection are robust and improved across the primary school.
  • Should any child protection or safeguarding incident occur, take responsibility for investigation and subsequent action.

Wellbeing, Attendance and Punctuality:

  • Monitor/Review wellbeing curriculum
  • Conduct surveys and analyse wellbeing data and create action plans to improve pastoral care.

Staff Training:

  • Ensure that the house team has an effective system for identifying staff PLD needs for incorporation in the School Staff Development Plan.
  • Deliver appropriate training for staff to ensure that they can effectively implement behaviour and safeguarding systems to ensure consistency across the school.
  • Motivate and enable staff members to meet their full potential as effective practitioners of ‘Quality Pastoral Care’.

Evaluation and Improvement Planning:

  • Monitor and evaluate the quality of students’ personal and social development and their protection, care, guidance and support (Standards 2 and 5 in the 2018 UAE Inspection Framework) and take appropriate action to make improvements.
  • Contribute to the review process by providing appropriate reports in line with the school policy and procedure.
  • Report evaluation outcomes to the senior team, support writing of the SEF/Action Plan and use evaluation to plan improvements effectively.

Holding Others to Account

  • Ensure appropriate systems and structures are in place to hold staff to account.
  • Use an appropriate balance of support and formal procedures to ensure staff meet the high expectation of GEMS Education and The Westminster School.
  • Undertake regular evaluation of staff progress towards agreed improvement objectives through the school’s appraisal, performance management and line management policies, practices and procedures.
  • Utilise the school’s observation procedures to monitor pastoral care, behaviour for learning, practice of staff and students, and follow up observations with a discussion on progress and areas for improvement, across Houses.
  • Contribute positively to own appraisal, performance management and line management.

Policies & Procedures

  • Contribute to the development and continuous review of policies which govern the operation of the school. Whilst enabling the staff team to remain actively involved in policy development.
  • Lead in developing and implementing individual educational and behavioural programmes to develop learning behaviours in children.
  • Ensure policies and procedures related to pastoral care, safeguarding and child protection are formalised and implemented across the school.
  • Support the writing and fulfilment of day pastoral care systems and rotas (e.g: breaks, Arrival, dispersal)

Accountability to Stakeholders:

  • Support the development of a culture in the school which is stakeholder focused and aims to improve levels of engagement and satisfaction for students, parents, staff and community stakeholders.

Skills

Qualification:

  • Qualified Teacher Status
  • Current PLD related to Safeguarding and Pastoral care.

Job Specific Knowledge & Skills:

  • Well-developed understanding of the developmental needs of students.
  • Child mental health, first aid, safeguarding training or equivalent would be an asset.
  • Understanding of the Pastoral Curriculum, learning practices research and pedagogy.
  • Knowledge of child protection procedures and an understanding of the need for compliance with these procedures.
  • Knowledge of behaviour management strategies.
  • Knowledge of strategies for working with students with a variety of special needs.
  • High level of interpersonal skills and the ability to form good relationships with students, colleagues and parents.
  • Well organised and efficient including completing agreed tasks within set timelines.
  • An effective communicator with strong supervisory and leadership skills.
  • An innovative thinker with the ability to think laterally and find decisive solutions to problems.
  • Energetic, enthusiastic and resilient, with the ability to work well under pressure and manage time effectively.
  • Sensitive towards students’ wellbeing and pastoral care.
