JOB SUMMARY:
Medical Laboratory Technologists are responsible for performing the operational activities pertaining to diagnostic services, ensure delivery of quality services to inpatient and outpatient, report clinical data accurately and efficiently so that care givers receive optimum care. The Laboratory technologists ensure safe and efficient operations inside the laboratory, perform quality control/ assurance, and tests patient samples as per approved Standard Operating Procedures.
In addition, the laboratory technologists should have the ability to prioritize workload, adapt to changing demands without detriment to service provision and work to meet or exceed regulatory requirements.

KEY ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Clinical Practice:
- Perform duties efficiently and effectively in line with best practice and as directed by Management.
- Demonstrate knowledge, reasoning, and skills to carry out the duties and responsibilities associated with the role.
- Strictly adhere to operational policies and procedures specific to designated area of duty.
- Maintain confidentiality of all matters pertaining to the Hospital, staff, and patients.
- Maintain the required knowledge and skills to provide effective training, keeping up to date with current advances in technology and diagnostic techniques.
- Bench work: Perform routine and specialized laboratory tests, in accordance with established standard operating procedures and work guidelines.
- Perform analyte testing, quality control analysis and proficiency testing according to defined procedures.
- Prioritizes workload depending on stat, urgent and routine test orders.
- Prepare specimens for shipment following local and international regulations and defined procedures.
- Understand and perform blood bank samples, demonstrate knowledge of testing processes which includes blood grouping, cross matching, blood component management and inventory.
- Clean equipment’s, analyzers, laboratory areas and safely dispose of contaminated waste
- Maintain centrifuges, mixers, balances, glassware washers, incubators, refrigerators, and freezers as per manufacturer’s instructions and inform the senior laboratory technologists of any deviation so that corrective action be taken.
- Perform equipment maintenance according to manufacturer’s guidelines and laboratory procedures.
- Work independently when providing service to patients requiring urgent testing.
- Keep the department and assigned working area clean, tidy and safe, with particular awareness of fire regulations and security arrangements.
- Ensure all regulatory agency guidelines are met including those mandated by the Dubai Health Care Authority (DHCA), College of American Pathologists (CAP), Joint Commission (JCI) and other relevant accrediting bodies.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
Education
Essential:
- BSc in Medical Technology or Biomedical Science.
Preferred:
- Master’s in healthcare related field preferred but not essential.
- Relevant License Holder with wide knowledge / experience in the same field.
Experience
- Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a clinical laboratory which includes Biochemistry, Hematology, Immunohematology, Serology, Molecular biology.
- Minimum 2 years of Experience in Molecular biology.
Certification and Licensure
- Relevant License Holder with wide knowledge / experience in the same field.
- Life Support and Advanced Life support Training.
- American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) required OR Intermediate Life Support (ILS).
- American Heart Association Advanced Life Support: ACLS, PALS, NRP (is preferred relevant to area of specialty) or to be successfully obtained within XX months of employment.
