Job Description

An endodontist’s function is the study and practice of the etiology, diagnosis, prevention and treatment of diseases and injuries of the pulp and associated pathological periradicular conditions. He/she is knowledgeable and skillful in the diagnosis and treatment of pulpal and/or periapical pathology. The scope of practice includes continuing education presentations; ensuring adequate endodontic equipment and expendable supplies are maintained; and functional control of the endodontic operatory

Responsibilities

3.1 EXAMINATION, DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT PLANNING – Responsible for differential diagnosis and control of
pain and pulpal and/or periapical origin. Orders necessary radiographs and performs appropriate diagnostic
tests to establish diagnosis. Advises patients as to the nature and severity of a problem and the necessary
treatment.
3.2 ENDODONTIC TREATMENT – Treats pathology of pulpal and/or periapical origin by performing as indicated; pulp
capping; pulpotomy; pulpectomy, non-treatment of root canals and periapical pathosis of pulpal origin;
obturation of canals; selective surgical removal of pathological tissues resulting from pulpal pathosis;
replantation; hemisection; root amputation; endodontic implants; and leaching of discolored teeth
3.3 CONSULTATION – Serves as primary consultant to the dental and medical services in diagnosis, treatment
planning and treatment of pulpal and/or periapical pathology.

3.4 QUALITY ASSURANCE – Monitors endodontic treatment by other clinicians to ensure quality of endodontic
treatment maintains high standards.
3.5 ENDODONTIC OPERATORY AND SUPPLIES – Has functional supervision of endodontic operatory. Monitors
quantity and quality of endodontic supplies. Advises the supply supervisor of needed adjustment in endodontic
inventory.
3.6 Keeps current with new techniques/procedures in the practice of endodontics, recommends &
implements as approved.
3.7 Responsible for the proper practice of infection control guidelines in all clinical areas.
3.8 Keeps current with emergency techniques as they emerge and evolve.
3.9 Active participation and sustained qualification in all cardio-pulmonary resuscitation programs.
3.10 Attends staff meetings and weekly rounds and participates in in-service activities as required, i.e., Morbidity &
Mortality conferences, Peer Reviews, etc.
3.11 Performs additional duties as designated by the Head of the Department.
3.12 Comply with all OSH and infection control policies, standards and procedures and cooperate with hospital
management to comply those requirements
3.13 Work accordance with the documented OSH procedures and instructions, specific responsibilities
3.14 Be familiar with emergency and evacuation procedures
3.15 Notifying OSH Hazards, incidents, Near misses and issues and assistance with the preparation of risk
assessments, incident reports
3.16 Comply with Waste management procedures and policies
3.17 Attend applicable OSH/Infection control training programs, mock drills and awareness programs
3.18 Use of appropriate personal protective equipment and safety systems

Qualifications

.1 Graduate from an accredited school of Medicine with an MBBS degree.
4.2 D.D.S. or D.M.D. from an approved Dental School (American Dental Association approval or equivalent). 2 years
post-graduate study in endodontics to be eligible for the American Board of Endodontics certification.
4.3 Minimum of three (3) years practice in the specialty of endodontics.
4.4 Excellent command of oral and written English. Knowledge of Arabic language is desirable but not essential.

4.5 Must have a thorough knowledge of medical ethics, with particular reference to the obligation to maintain the
confidentiality of his work; personality which inspires confidence and trust in his patients; and adhere to Bylaws,
Rules and Regulations of the Medical Organization.
4.6 Current licensure in country of origin and with HAAD license to practice endodontic dentistry in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
4.7 Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with co-workers, superiors, patients & families.
